Free email translation
The link appeared in my email box a couple of days ago. It said: free email translation. I was really curious what it was all about. I imagined that a translation company offered some free services for new customers or that a student who needed to gain some basic experience offered free voluntary work. But I was wrong. When I clicked on the link, I was redirected to a free online tool for email translation. I thought it was rather ridiculous. How on earth can a machine like that translate emails into another language? Emails are written by humans, so they do not contain pure messages. They also contain attitudes, feelings, intentions that are not expressed directly in the text. As usual, I was really interested in the way it worked so I copied and pasted a short email I had got the day before from my boss. Then I clicked on the ‘translate" button and a text in French appeared in front of my eyes almost immediately. That was very quick, I have to admit. But it was far form being perfect. First of all, the free Email translation tool made a lot of mistakes. I could not decipher the French message because it was full of grammatical mistakes. And what"s more, it translated some of the phrases in a really funny way!
